YEAR 2008-2009

Highlights:

  • Formal launch of AP SamanaVidyaSadhanaSamithi in 19 districts of AP.
  • Common School system consultations organized in 19 districts to create awarenes
  • Sub-regional alliances and district committees formed to include like minded people across the state.
  • As a part of election advocacy State-level consultation with political parties held to make education a priority
  • A concept book on CSS published - SamanaVidya ante yemiti; enduku
  • Rallies and Public Meetings held across districts to demand effective implementation of CSS and better facilities in schools.
  • Various demands made to ensure better access to education – filling up posts of vacant teachers, demanding for timely printing and distribution of school text books, demand for proper infrastructure facilities at schools and  opposing privatization of schools that make education unaffordable for the poor.
  • A state level yatra was organized in the 3 regions of Telangana, Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra as a part of the larger national network(NAFRE – Natioanl Alliance for right to education is a national network that advocates equal education for all children)

 

IMPACT 

  • Various grass roots level NGOs and individuals who were striving to make education accessible for all, found strength in the alliance as it amplified their efforts and unified their demands. This made the movement more visible.
  • Regional committees in three distinct areas of the state, namely, Rayalaseema, Telangana and Coastal Andhra formed. Subsequently such committees were initiated in all the sub regions.
  • A state wide well planned and aggressive campaigning led to prevention of closure of 3,276 government upper primary schools (as issued by the state government through Government order 76). The campaign resulted in the withdrawal of the government order.
