YEAR 2009-10

Highlights:

  • A Workshop was organized to strengthen the campaign and document the basic foundation on which the campaign was formed. This led to forming the constitution, and arriving at the broad framework for the alliance to include the Values, Beliefs, structure, and Roles at responsibilities at various levels.
  • District level campaigns were organized demanding drinking water facility to schools, increase budget for mid day meal scheme, improving infrastructure facilities in schools/ social welfare hostels and amendments to the RTE act (Right To education act).
  • State-level workshop on “status of Education in AP” that involved well known people from the sector
  • A yatra spread across the sub-regions of coastal Andhra was organized covering 4 districts demanding amendments to RTE act and for improving infrastructure facilities in schools.
  • Election advocacy campaign was taken to the next level with representation from children’s collectives to highlight the hurdles faced by children in accessing education.
  • A campaign was organized as a part of the larger South India partners alliance on January 25th with a focus on better implementation of the RTE 2010 Act
  • Sustained interactions with media and coverage to highlight the challenges children faced in accessing quality education

 

 IMPACT:

  • A government order issued asking women wardens to be recruited in girl’s hostels in Chittoor district.
  • In lines with the Constitution of the Alliance, women’s participation has seen an increase in the alliance.
  • The Alliance actively participated in a Signature Campaign collecting 1,09,244 signatures and organized public hearing in support of the “Equal Education for All” Campaign organized by NGO CRY (Child Rights and You). The signatures were submitted to the Honorable President of India, SmtPratibhaPatil.
  • 250 children from childrens’ collectives and 450 community members got together to interact with candidates contesting for the elections, placing their concerns and submitting a memorandum asking for access to quality education.
