YEAR 2012-13

Highlights:

  • One of the key highlights of the efforts put in by the alliance was constituting the SCPCR in the state by the Government of A.P. This step will go a long way in protecting the child rights in the state in a more focused way.
  • The issuing of Government order. No. 1974 by AP government, through which safe drinking water will be provided to 959 schools in Nalgonda district results in more than a lakh school going children benefited especially considering that fluoride is a serious issue in Nalgonda district
  • The strong stand taken by the Alliance resulted in prevention of against closure of schools,  improvement in the basic infrastructure facilities in schools, hostels and anganwadis, thereby giving children an opportunity to have quality education and preventing them from dropping out from schools.
  • In Nalgonda district, the state government announced a 200 crore rupees package for providing milk and egg in ICDS centres in 17 Blocks, thus impacting nearly 30000 children and 10000 pregnant and lactating mothers.
  • Campaigns highlighting the poor condition of anganwadis led to various sanctions being made to improvise the condition
  • Through press meets, public hearings, submission of memorandums critical issues like sexual abuse, Corporal punishment, closure of schools, poor infrastructure at schools, anganwadis and hostels kept getting highlighted.

IMPACT -

  • 6 fact-finding missions were undertaken by the alliance members during the year to highlight cases of violation of child rights and to press for a just action to be taken against the perpetrators
  • Closure of 59 schools was resisted.
  • Infrastructure improved across 190 schools
  • 211 girls toilets were activated
  • 126 infrastructure facilities were demanded at hostels
  • An announcement of 200 crores package for the district towards providing Egg and Milk daily in all the Anganwadi centres in 17 Mandals.
  • Passing of G.O. Rt. No. 1974 to provide safe drinking water in the government schools in 17 Mandals will lead to 959 schools with 1,08,587 children being covered under this project. Rs. 15.07 crore rupees has been sanctioned for this
  • District partners conducted several campaigns resulting in widespread changes infrastructure of schools

- In Nalagonda district safe drinking water units sanctioned in 3 schools, a bore-well sanctioned in a hostel that ensured regular supply of drinking water.

- The District Education Officer at Adilabad began  taking measures to

improve basis a study of 50 schools across 15 mandals

- budgets released in Chittoor district for infrastructure improvements in  schools. A building was sanctioned for boy’s hostel, 7 toilets and drinking water taps were made available in a hostels, compound wall & water facilities were made available, water facilities were made available for a girl’s hostel and 2 new rooms made available at a  boys’ hostel.

- new school building was sanctioned in Karimnagar district

- two new school buildings sanctioned, new toilets were constructed in a hostel in Mahabubnagar district

- 6 toilets sanctioned for schools in Hyderabad district

- water facilities and toilets were made available for girls in a school in Rangareddy district and a bore-well sanctioned in a hostel

- additional class rooms, kitchen shed and a borewell were sanctioned at 3 schools; and an improvement in the quality of food at hostels was noticed after the absolutely low quality of food provided in the hostels was highlighted in Visakhapatnam district.

- Drinking water units and a kitchen sanctioned at schools, toilets constructed in a hostel and a new hostel for girls sanctioned in Viziangaram district

- New building, additional class rooms and a kitchen shed was sanctioned in 3 schools, toilets, compound wall, drinking water was made available across 5 hostels in east Godavari district.

- Additional class rooms in 4 schools, toilets in 6 schools, kitchen shed in 3 schools and drinking water units in 4 schools were sanctioned; additional rooms for inmates were constructed in one hostel, toilets were reactivated in 4 hostels, sufficient water supply was ensured in 7 hostels and compound wall constructed for one hostel in Kadapa district.

- Additional class rooms for 5 schools, toilets in 4 schools and drinking water units in 3 schools were sanctioned in Nellore district. 400 students benefitted when hostels saw an improvement in facilities like construction of a new building, reactivation of toilets, ensuring sufficient supply of water and construction of compound wall

- 10 toilets for girls were sanctioned in Anantpur district.

  • A campaign against poor conditions of mini anganwadis led to the district collector take action to

-  To appoint Anganwadi Ayahs on priority

-  To issue double ration for severely malnourished children

-  To prepare proposals for starting new Mini Anganwadis  where there is need.

-  When budgets for Anganwadi buildings are sanctioned, priority will be given for construction of buildings in tribal areas.
